Sarawak building its own International Islamic School

The Sarawak government is currently building its own International Islamic School.

According to The Star‘s article in 2023 which quoted Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, the Islamic school would complement the Sarawak government’s plans to set up international schools.

Currently, the Sarawak Government is operating and also building Yayasan Sarawak International Schools across Sarawak.

The report said the site of the Sarawak International Islamic School has been identified. Some have said that it will be in Kuching, located along the KUTS ART Green Line.

Borneo Post reported that Sarawak’s first Islamic International School is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

The article quoted Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi as saying the school would cater for Sarawakians who excel academically.

He also noted that the International Islamis School will be using the Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah of Singapore syllabus and Cambridge international syllabus.

In relation to that, New Sarawak Tribune reported that the school will start taking in 100 students for its first intake in 2027, with the school being a full boarding school.

The report also said that the President of the Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC), Datuk Misnu Tahaas as saying that are nine government-aided religious primary schools and nine religious secondary schools in Sarawak, with SIC establishing 19 nursery schools and two preschools in Sarawak to date.
