Samarahan – Kuching Airport link road almost ready and completed

The construction of the new access road connecting Samarahan to the southern area of Kuching International Airport (KIA) is nearing completion and is expected to be finished by the end of June 2025.
As of April 2025, the Sarawak Publics Works Department (JKR) said reported that the project is approximately 92% complete.
This project, costing RM112.9 million, includes the construction of a 5.2km single carriageway, a 1km dual carriageway, and a 1.7km single carriageway.
Additionally, three bridges are being built across Sungai Kuap, Sungai Stampin, and Sungai Sangkoh.
The new road aims to provide an alternative route for travel between Samarahan and Kuching, intending to reduce traffic congestion in Samarahan, especially during peak hours.
The road stretches from the T-junction at Stutong to the T-junction at Stampin, then to the T-junction at Bukit Berangan, and also includes a section from the Stampin T-junction to the T-junction at Sungai Tapang.

Project delays & redesign
Initially, the Samarahan – Kuching airport road project faced delays due to the need for revised design drawings and a safety assessment approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).
These revisions were required following changes to the initial underpass design.
Despite these delays, the project is now back on track, with the revised completion date set for June 28, 2025.
Once fully opened, those residing in and nearby Samarindah, Kota Samarahan, UNIMAS, UiTM, Bukit Berangan and Muara Tuang can expect to reach Kuching and the Kuching International Airport much faster than before.
