RM5 mil to build new community hall for Kanowit

Kanowit residents are set to benefit from a new community hall capable of accommodating approximately 500 people for social, community, and official events, as the construction project moves forward.

Datuk Dr. Penguang Manggil, Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak, announced that the Kanowit District Council has identified a proposed site for the project and is currently finalizing the land application process.

Location of Kanowit Community Hall

The proposed site for the new Kanowit Community Hall involves two land lots, namely Lot 2619 and Lot 1324, in Kanowit Town District.

The land is located adjacent to the existing Kanowit Tamu (local market) making it easily accessible to the public.

Kanowit Community Hall facilities

The new Kanowit Community Hall Project is designed to be a comprehensive venue, not just offering a main function space for 500 people. Its planned facilities include:

  • VIP Room
  • Storage Room
  • Audio System Room
  • Stage
  • Mechanical Switchboard Room
  • Changing Rooms
  • Toilets
  • Dedicated Parking Area

Cost and Timeline

The overall cost for the comprehensive project is estimated to be around RM5 million.

The project application will be submitted to the Land and Survey Department for approval, before the design and implementation follows.

There is no confirmed date for the hall’s completion but signs are positive for the whole project to move forward.

That said, once the new hall is completed, it can be a catalyst for social, economic, and community activities in Kanowit Town as it would provide local residents with a more comfortable and well-equipped infrastructure for hosting various community programs.
