The Padawan Raft Safari 2024 was recently announced by the Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. It is jointly organized by the Sarawak government and the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).
The event is a signature event in Padawan and has grown to have its very own fan base. This year, the event will be held on 20 October 2024.
According to UKAS, the raft safari event is expected to get 150 participants this year, challenging themselves between the four categories available.
Among the categories available are the 32KM Open Category Raft Event, 22KM Category Raft Event, 15KM Women Open Raft Event and 40KM Open Category Kayak Event.
Check on their official website show that all categories are still open for registration at writing time, with race briefing as well as race pack collection yet to be announced.
Entry starts from RM100 per team, with flag off for every category done at different locations such as Kampung Semadang, Kampung Annah Rais, Kampung Danu and Kampung Temurang.
The finishing point is Kampung Git in Padawan.
UKAS quoted Karim was quoted as saying that the event should expect local and international participants with cash prizes worth RM19,000 up for grabs.
Based on my checks online, the top prize is RM1,500 with a throphy.
