Marudi bridge officially opens for public use
The Marudi bridge has been officially open to the public, enabling those from Baram to travel to Marudi and vice versa faster.
With the bridge, one can reach either side of the river within 30 minutes as compared to the long wait when the route was served by ferry.
According to the Sarawak Public Works Department statement on their social media site, the 650 meter bridge started construction on October 20th 2022, and was fully operational on 18 October 2024.
About Marudi bridge
According to PBB’s website, the construction contract for the Marudi bridge project was innitially awarded to Syarikat HKK & Salem in 2019, but the company failed to deliver.
Borneo Post reported that the bridge was innitally supposed to be completed in 2022and the re-tender was awarded to Pekerjaan Piasau Konkerit Sdn Bhd (PPK).
It is understood that Pekerjaan Piasau Konkerit completed the bridge ahead of schedule with the project also involving the construction of an 800m road.
The Marudi bridge is a single lane bridge crossing the Baram river and constuction cost was said to be RM116.5 million.
It was officially declared open by Datuk Ir. Aidel Lariwoo, who is the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak.
