The much-anticipated Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) for Kuching and Samarahan is currently on its the way to Kuching City.
In a video shared by YouTube channel New China TV on 18 July 2023, it explains that the world’s first Hydrogen powered tram which is independently developed in China, has departed its production site in Zhuzhou in China’s Hunan Province to a port in Shanghai, before arriving in Malaysia.
The video further explains that the tram can go 245km on a single hydrogen charge.
BERNAMA also reported that the tram, which is popularly known as Kuching ART, is a prototype and is scheduled to arrive in Kuching in August 2023.
Once in Kuching, the prototype will have an engineering run for two-months at the Isthmus Kuching before it continues its and proof of concept (POC) exercise in POC.
It is understood that the POC will involve a short stretch within the 27.6km Blue Line which connects Rembus in Kota Samarahan to Hikmah Exchange in Kuching’s city centre.
I was also made known that the ART service will be complemented by a hydrogen-powered feeder bus network.
