Electra House Kuching
Electra House is the first shopping mall in Kuching City. It was opened in August 1965, and was designed by two Singapore architects Swan and Maclaren.
The name Electra hailed from from what used to sit at the site of the mall; Kuching’s first and also tallest electrical power station in 1922. Then, the twin chimneys of the power station hit heights of 68 feet.
In 1990, Electra House was renovated to hide its modern facade, replacing it with the current faux-classical confection.
The mall was a popular hang out place in the early 80’s and 90’s. The photo below shows how it looks when it was still popular.
What to expect
Today, the mall isn’t as lively as it used to be. Walking around the mall itself shows how far it has declined.
Here’s a few photos of the mall in 2023.
Opening hours
Most of the shops at Electra House Kuching open from 9AM to 6PM daily.
