Date to officiate tallest flagpole in South East Asia confirmed

Premier of Sarawak to officiate flagpole during new year countdown

The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, is set to officiate the tallest flagpole in South East Asia at the end of 2023.

According to Borneo Post, the event will also double as the count down to the new year, and it will be held at the Kuching Waterfront.

The report by the same paper said that the 99m flagpole is the last event of the year under the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts.

Prior to the announcement, the flagpole was said to be fully completed this month (December).

It cost some RM30 million to build and weighs about 120 metric tonnes, and will is taller than the current tallest flagpole in South East Asia which is located in Kuala Lumpur.
