Consultant Appointed for the RM480M Mile 8 Flyover Project in Kuching

The highly anticipated Mile 8 Kuching-Serian flyover project has officially entered its next phase of development.

Aimed at alleviating the notorious traffic bottlenecks along the Kuching-Serian route, a consultant firm has now been appointed to lead the crucial design and study phases of this major infrastructure upgrade.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang recently welcomed this positive step forward, noting that the appointment paves the way for the project to reach the tender stage within the next year.

As a critical “redline” component of the Pan Borneo Highway, this RM480 million federally funded project is designed to tackle the severe congestion faced daily by commercial heavy vehicles and commuters at the busy 8th Mile junction.

While acknowledging that federal-level technical assessments, allocations, and approvals naturally take time, local leaders remain committed to pushing for expedited implementation.

Lo said he is working closely with Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi to monitor the timeline and represent the concerns of local residents.

The ultimate goal is to get the flyover completed and significantly improve traffic flow and road safety in Kuching’s rapidly expanding southern corridor.

The Mile 8 flyover completion target date is set for 2027, and is expected to bring much relief and smoother connectivity for all road users travelling between Kuching and Serian.
