Bintulu Hospital now has cardiac care facility

Bintulu Hospital has elevated its capacity for cardiac care with the commissioning of a new Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab).

The new Cath Lab was possible through a substantial corporate donation.

This vital medical unit was made possible by a generous contribution of RM2.25 million from three local corporate entities, which channeled the funds via the Sarawak Heart Foundation (Yayasan Jantung Sarawak).

The new Cath Lab is not only a significant milestone for the hospital, but also healthcare in central Sarawak.

Previously, patients requiring urgent interventional cardiology procedures, such as angioplasty, had to be referred to the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kuching, causing delays in crucial treatment.

With Bintulu Hospital now is equipped to provide immediate, life-saving care on-site, such treatment would translate to better cardiac care for those in Bintulu.

It is noted that the impact of the Cath Lab facility is immediate with Bintulu Hospital able to treat 145 heart patients in September 2025 alone, with 75 successfully undergoing angioplasty procedures, managed by visiting specialists from the Sarawak Heart Centre.

Aside from getting the Cath Lab facility, Bintulu Hospital is also set for an expansion under the 13th Malaysia Plan which will see it add on 500 beds and 3,000 parking bays.
