Batu Kawa & Moyan to get KUTS ART Line next
Densely populated areas of Batu Kawa and Moyan in Kuching are next in line to get the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) trams service.
DayakDaily reported that Sarawak transport minister, Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin, as confirming the addition of what would be known as the “Yellow Line’ for the service.
According to the daily, the proposed route would be from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) to Moyan in Batu Kawa.
Construction of the Yellow Line will start after the completion of the first phase of the KUTS ART project which is currently on-going.
Which area will the Yellow Line connect
Based on the proposed routes shown on the Sarawak Metro website, there is only one line which is from SGH to Moyan.
The KUTS ART line, supposedly the Yellow Line, also connects places like 3rd Mile, Jalan Dagon, Batu Kawa, Desa Wira, Moyan and up to Bau, making it perhaps the KUTS ART’s most densely populated route between the Red Line, Blue Line, Green Line and Yellow Line of the whole project.
Despite the excitement of the KUTS ART finally connecting densely populated areas, those in the area will still need to wait for at least three years for the Yellow Line to be constructed as the current first phase of the KUTS ART project is only expected to be completed in 2027.
Just to note, Phase 1 of the KUTS ART project consists of three transit lines namely the Blue Line, Red Line and Green Line, which cover a total distance of 69.9 kilometres over 35 stations.
